| University of Chicago - Residence Hall Unitized Stone Project Taking Shape |
ASILIMITED was awarded the contract for over 298,000 square feet of exterior Rain Screen facade work on the new University of Chicago-Residence Hall. The work consists of all exterior light gauge framing, sheathing, weather barrier, 165,000 SF of custom unitized Limestone rainscreen panels, 80,000 SF of interior glazed curtain wall, 33,000 SF of composite and plate paneling, and 925 custom operable punched openings. Multiple ornamental details consisting of sunshades, cable trellises, glass canopies and aluminum trims accent this impressive design. The design is being lead by the national firm of Goody Clancy from Boston, MA and construction services being performed by Gilbane Building Company.
ASILIMITED has began to set Unitized Stone on the University of Chicago project several months ago. The crew is setting 12-18 units per day. In all, the project calls for over 4000 units, which weigh approximately 800-lbs each. The Unitized Stone will cover 168,000 square feet. This impressive project is scheduled for completion in March 2009.
Overall, the project is approximately 65% complete. Unitized stone continues on the West Tower – with 2 crews – one in the courtyard and one on the North Elevation. Middle Tower – clips and insulation continue as the ASI team prepares for unitized stone to start later this fall on the Middle Tower. East Tower – continues with Curtainwall and glass installation.
Completion of the AVB (air vapor barrier) will be around the first part of October. Some of the miscellaneous scopes are starting – as the architectural louvers are well underway, steel is being completed for the wood windows and eyebrow features, trims at the curtain walls and punched windows start to compliment the stone and give a glimpse of how the finished elevation will look.
